Flipboard is a social magazine and news aggregation app co-founded in January 2010 by Mike McCue and Evan Doll ¹². McCue previously co-founded Tellme Networks (acquired by Microsoft in 2007) and Doll was an early engineer on the iPhone team at Apple ¹. The company launched in July 2010 on iPad, reimagining how people consume content from social networks and the web in a magazine-style layout ²³. Apple named Flipboard its iPad App of the Year in 2010 ¹. The company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California ³. Flipboard has raised approximately $236 million in total funding across six rounds ⁴.

Series B was at a $200 million valuation ⁵⁶. Series C valued the company at $800 million ⁷. The 2022 round was a significant down round, with valuation declining approximately 92% from prior levels ¹³.
